Cycling from Hanoi to Beijing covers approximately 2,800 to 3,200 km over rugged mountains, plateaus, and flat plains.averaging 85-105 km daily with rest days—heads northwest to the Chinese border, climbs into the Yunnan mountains, flattens across central plains, and finishes in the capital....

Day 1: Hanoi to Son Tay - 55 km. 8:30 AM pick up from your hotel in Hanoi - Escape Hanoi's urban sprawl, cycling west along the Red River delta into quieter rural roads.

Day 2: Son Tay to Phu Yen - 90 km. Warm up your climbing legs as the terrain transitions from flat farmlands to rolling foothills.

Day 3: Phu Yen to Bac Yen - 55 km. A challenging, mountainous ride entering the dramatic landscapes of the Son La province.

Day 4: Bac Yen to Moc Chau - 90 km. High-altitude cycling along lush, green plateaus ending in the cool, tea-producing town of Moc Chau.

Day 5: Moc Chau to Yen Chau - 75 km. Enjoy a scenic, mostly downhill descent through karst valleys toward the border region

Day 6: Yên Châu to Sơn La City

Distance: ~53 km via QL6

Terrain: Moderately rolling paved roads with a gradual incline.

The Ride: Use this shorter afternoon or morning ride to dial in your gear and spin your legs. You will pedal through the scenic karst valleys of Yên Châu, passing local mango orchards and traditional Black Thai stilt houses. The road builds up to a steady incline as you enter the city basin.

Evening: Stay in Sơn La City. Visit the historic French-era Sơn La Prison and fuel up on local grilled pork (thịt lợn bản nướng).

Day 7: Sơn La City to Tuần Giáo (via Pha Đin Pass)

Distance: ~78 km via QL6

Terrain: Mountainous. A continuous 16km alpine climb followed by a steep 16km descent.

The Ride: Roll out by 7:00 AM. After a 30km rolling warm-up to Thuận Châu town, you hit the base of Pha Đin Pass—one of Vietnam’s legendary "Four Great Passes." Pace yourself through the steep switchbacks. The summit at 1,648 meters offers jaw-dropping cloud views before a fast, technical descent into Tuần Giáo.

Evening: Overnight at a hotel in the bustling valley town of Tuần Giáo.

Day 8: Tuần Giáo to Than Uyên

Distance: ~105 km via QL279

Terrain: Extreme endurance. Long, remote, undulating gradients and river basin riding.

The Ride: This is your hardest day. You will head north on the highly isolated QL279, navigating rugged terrain through dense bamboo forests. You will cross the magnificent Da River reservoir and trace the edges of the Bản Chát hydropower basin. Pack plenty of food and water, as roadside shops are incredibly scarce today.

Evening: Stay in Than Uyên town, a mountain hub surrounded by tea plantations.

Day 9: Than Uyên to Sa Pa (via Ô Quy Hồ Pass)

Distance: ~99 km via QL32 and QL4D

Terrain: 65km of mild valley rolling, followed by a brutal 34km alpine climb up to 2,000 meters elevation.

The Ride: Start early to tackle the longest mountain pass in Vietnam. You will cycle past the stunning green tea fields of Tân Uyên and Bình Lư until you reach the QL4D junction. From there, you begin the legendary Ô Quy Hồ Pass. You will climb for hours straight up the massive cliff faces, passing Silver Waterfall (Thác Bạc) and crossing Heaven's Gate before rolling down into a misty Sa Pa.

Evening: Celebrate your massive 350km cycling achievement with a hot celebratory salmon hotpot (lẩu cá hồi) in Sa Pa town!

Day 10:  Sa Pa Morning Cycling to Lao Chai and Ta Van villages

Distance: ~19 km via Muong Hoa

Morning downhill cycling to visit Lao Chai and Ta Van villages and cycling uphill back to Sapa. 

Afternoon free day .

Day 11: Sapa - Ban Khoang to Lao Cai - 75 km. Final push through Vietnam to the Lao Cai border. China.

Day 12: Lao Cai - Cossrosing Border To Hekou to Mengzi - 75 km. Prepare for passport control and cross into Hekou, A steep, winding climb out of the tropical border valley onto the Yunnan plateau.

Day 13: Mengzi to Jianshui - 80 km. Rolling hills passing through historic towns and local farming communities.

Day 14: Rest Day in Jianshui - 0 km. Rest and recover; explore Jianshui’s ancient Confucius Temple and traditional courtyard homes.

Day 15: Jianshui to Tonghai - 75 km. Pedal through flat valley floors skirting the scenic Qilu Lake.

Day 16: Tonghai to Yuxi - 85 km. A mix of rural climbs and fast descents leading into the major industrial and cultural hub of Yuxi.

Day 17: Yuxi to Kunming - 95 km. Final stretch up to the "Spring City" of Kunming (1,900m elevation).

Day 18: Rest Day in Kunming - 0 km. Explore the city, adjust your gear, and visit Green Lake before moving north.

Day 19: Kunming to Xundian - 80 km. Depart Kunming on high-elevation rural roads climbing towards northeastern Yunnan.

Day 20: Xundian to Dongchuan - 90 km. Ride through stunning, eroded red-soil landscapes and mountainous gorges.

Day 21: Dongchuan to Huize - 80 km. A challenging climbing day up the Jinsha River valley into the Guizhou border region.

Day 22: Rest Day in Huize - 0 km. Re-energize in this historic mining city before tackling more high-altitude passes.

Day 23: Huize to Weining - 85 km. Cross from Yunnan into Guizhou province, cycling around the massive Caohai Lake wetlands.

Day 24: Weining to Liupanshui - 80 km. High-altitude riding crossing dramatic coal-mining plateaus and deep valleys.

Day 25: Liupanshui to Anshun - 95 km. A rewarding route featuring undulating hills and lush, forested mountain backdrops.

Day 26: Anshun to Guiyang - 90 km. Enter the Guizhou provincial capital, passing near the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall.

Day 27: Rest Day in Guiyang - 0 km. Take a well-deserved rest in this major metropolitan hub.

Day 28: Guiyang to Kaili - 95 km. Ride east through the beautiful, Miao ethnic minority villages of the Qianxnan region.

Day 29: Kaili to Shibing - 85 km. Enjoy scenic cycling along the Qingshui River, surrounded by terraced rice fields

Day 30: Rest Day in Shibing - 0 km. Rest at Shibing before ascending towards the Hunan border.

Day 31: Shibing to Yuping - 90 km. A tough, hilly ride crossing the rugged boundary separating Guizhou from Hunan.

Day 32: Yuping to Huaihua - 85 km. Descend from the mountainous borders into the sprawling city of Huaihua.

Day 33: Huaihua to Loudi - 95 km. A long day on provincial roads moving across central Hunan’s agricultural flatlands.

Day 34: Loudi to Changsha - 90 km. Cycle to the capital of Hunan province, famous for its rich history and vibrant food scene.

Day 35: Rest Day in Changsha - 0 km. Take a break to visit the Orange Isle or the Hunan Provincial Museum.

Day 36: Changsha to Yueyang - 95 km. Follow the Xiang River north to the historic city of Yueyang on the shores of Dongting Lake.

Day 37: Yueyang to Xianning - 90 km. Cross from Hunan into Hubei province, riding through peaceful lake-strewn countryside.

Day 38: Xianning to Wuhan - 85 km. An easier, flat ride taking you directly into Wuhan, the massive transit hub on the Yangtze River.

Day 39: Rest Day in Wuhan - 0 km. Visit the Yellow Crane Tower and prepare for the final leg.

Day 40: Wuhan to Beijing (Transit) - 0 km. Due to massive expressways and heavy traffic, cyclists generally load bikes onto a train to travel from Wuhan to Beijing to complete the journey safely. End The Tour At Your Own Hotel .
